There are countless creative ways to boost traffic to your website. The most important way to increase website traffic is to create unique, interesting, high-quality content on a regular basis; however there are many other ways to boost your rankings.

In the first of our four-part series, we provide you with 5 high-quality content tips that will help you to boost traffic to your website:

1.       A Good Headline vs. a Fantastic Headline

A good headline will get some views to your website, but a fantastic headline will get you many. Since a headline is the first thing that readers see, it really needs to captivate the reader’s attention and persuade them to read on.

To do this, you need to target your exact audience using an engaging headline that stimulates all of the senses. Connect with your readers on an emotional level by stimulating desire, fear or need, or by providing a fact. Headlines beginning with ‘How to…’ or ‘Top 5 Ways to…’ have a proven success rate and can easily be used as a foundation to fit most article titles.  Alternatively, spark curiosity by asking your readers a question that will immediately pull them in (e.g. ‘can you spot these 5 advertising errors?’)

Finally, avoid fancy terminology, confusing abbreviations and technical jargon. Keep the font simple and never write in COMPLETE CAPITAL LETTERS.

2.       It’s the Reader that Matters

It’s tempting to write articles geared directly towards SEO requirements, but readers will definitely sense this – and so will Google. Instead, gear your articles towards your readers, writing fresh, interesting, high-quality content that they are going to enjoy and benefit from.

To do this, you need to find out exactly who your target audience are so that you can address them specifically. This will also influence your style of writing as you will want to use language that your readers can relate to.

Make sure that the reader takes something from the article – Is the content valuable? Will it inspire your readers? Do you offer a unique angle that no one else has covered? Do you write with passion and enthusiasm?

Gearing your content towards your readers is a highly effective and organic SEO technique that boosts quality traffic to your website. Once you begin to tailor your articles specifically towards your readers then Google and other search engines will recognise this behaviour and send you high up in search engine results.

3.       Create Regular High-Quality Content

Creating fresh, interesting, high-quality content on a regular basis is a fantastic way to boost traffic to your site. Post at least once a week, but every 2-3 days ideally. There are plenty of ways to gain content ideas: host a brainstorming session, browse through inspiring websites or invite a guest blogger to write a feature on your site.

4.       Vary Article Lengths

Another top tip is to vary the lengths of your articles. Combine short, to-the-point posts with longer, more comprehensive articles.

5.       Make it Worthy of a Share

Social media is absolutely ubiquitous and ignoring the power of social media could negatively influence your website traffic. Create content that is easily shareable so that your readers can easily spread the word. By combining points 1 and 2 above with an interesting image, readers will be inspired to share your content through social media sites such as Facebook, Pinterest, Google+ and Twitter.

Stay tuned for part 2 of our series, How to Boost Traffic to your Website, where we will be offering more tips and advice on how to make your articles more ‘sharable’ across social media platforms.
