Snapchat is a highly popular mobile app founded in 2011. The app, founded by Casey Neisat and Evan Spiegel, allows users to send ‘snaps’ or instant photos and videos, to your followers. It also has a messaging facility, where you can take your photos or videos and add graphics over the top of them, from doodles, captions and emoji stickers (see here for more information about taking ‘snaps’ on Snapchat).

The importance of meticulousness when posting

After 10 seconds of viewing time, Snapchat videos and images automatically delete themselves. However, it’s still important that you know how to delete Snapchats manually, because if you accidently post something inappropriate or in poor taste, you do not want this snap featured on your feed section as it could reflect badly on your brand.

Furthermore, once something is posted online, the concept of online privacy is highly questionable and complex. The problem is that once an image is shared by numerous people it then travels through a number of servers – from your own phone to those of your followers. Messages sent are then stored in people’s phone memories, on different websites and on their devices.

What’s so special about Snapchat?

Teenagers and millennials are crazy about Snapchat and the reasons for this are obvious. Everyone is plugged in to their mobile devices on a daily basis and you can very quickly and easily create a snap and post it for your followers to see.

Snapchat is far more relaxed than Instagram or Facebook. Firstly, it has a very ephemeral nature (as mentioned above, snaps are automatically deleted after 10 seconds). As such, there is no pressure to create a stunning Instagram shot or word a carefully articulated Facebook post. It is a relaxed, fun way to update people and stay up to date.

Snapchat is also the latest trending app. It is easy to use and fast to upload images onto, and there is no pressure for users regarding the number of views received, making it much more relaxed in nature.

Snapchat: Is it worth it for businesses?

As you can see, millions of people have a presence on Snapchat. However according to research, the majority of Snapchat users are female, therefore if you are a business appealing to a young (primarily female) audience it is recommended to join this platform and see what all the fuss is about! This is an excellent way to expand your audience reach, improve your brand and drive even more visitors to your website!
