Facebook is a fantastic online marketing resource that enables you to reach out to a wide target audience and attract more traffic to your site. However, it’s critical that you use the site correctly in order to gain the most out of it and avoid losing followers.

In part 1 of our series we brought 5 common Facebook mistakes that you definitely need to avoid, including ignoring feedback from your followers, and making your content mundane by only posting images. In part 2 of our series, we bring you 4 more techniques that you should definitely be avoiding…

Posting incorrect image sizes

Images that are too pixelated, complicated, messy and cluttered will not be enjoyed by your followers but will also represent your business as lazy, effortless and uncaring. Facebook has very clear guidelines for image dimensions of profile pictures, cover photos, images you post on your page, sidebar adverts and so on.

Having multiple Facebook accounts

Facebook also has very clear guidelines that disallow more than one personal account but the same is not true for business accounts. Nevertheless, it is not recommended to have more than one professional Facebook page as you will only end up complicating things, losing track of each account and posting unnecessary content.

There are also plenty of great ways to promote your Facebook business page including Facebook’s free targeting options, which enable you to tailor each post to a specific segment of your audience. You can also set up a Global Facebook Page which is ideal if you have a huge following and a large budget in place.

Only posting exclusively during business hours

Although there are definitely peak times to post content to your website, this doesn’t mean to say you can only post during those times. Mix things up now and then to reach out to as wide an audience as possible, by posting on weekends, evenings, nights and mornings. This is particularly important for businesses with an international presence whose followers are online at different times of the day.

Don’t post lengthy content

Facebook and other social media platforms have changed the way we digest and retain information. Today, it’s all about getting your point across as quickly and succinctly as possible. With such an overload of information coming from so many different directions, people no longer have the patience to read lengthy posts. As such, it’s recommended to keep each of your posts to a reasonable, digestible size.
