Instagram is a major social media network with some 300 million monthly active users from across the globe. Countless businesses use the site to promote their products or services and engage with their followers and have very quickly generated a massive following. But it’s important to use the site properly if you wish to gain the most out of it and augment the success of your brand.

In part 1 of this series we bring you 4 secrets designed to help you use Instagram properly

1. Only post original photos

Many brands make the mistake of posting unoriginal photos onto their Instagram page. However, not only does this pose legal limitations but it also makes your profile look less authentic. So if you’re going to run an Instagram account, be sure to take the time to snap original photos that are fresh, interesting and creative. Mix things up by posting a combination of product shots, office shots, cultural shots, inspiring shots and quotes.

2. Limit the number of times you post

Some brands completely overdo it by posting image after image within the course of a single day. People do not want to follow businesses that post too often, as it can become tiresome (and boring) to be exposed to a single brand’s images over and over again. Instead, stick to posting once or twice per day to maintain the appeal of your brand and bolster your following.

3. Focus on quality

Another important factor is to ensure that your photos are of the highest quality. Use filters if you want to tweak the appearance of your image but always ensure that they are clear and inspiring. Instagram is supposed to be a place where you showcase your brand in a carefully crafted way so always place an emphasis on quality over and above everything else.

4. Make your pictures eye-catching

Avoid posting boring product shots on a white background. So many brands make this mistake but Instagram is not designed for this purpose, it is designed to inspire followers and allow brands to tell their story. Use your account wisely by creating appealing photos that will make people want to visit your website and buy your items. Countless brands have adopted this strategy with great success, including Cartier, Chanel and Starbucks, who all have 2.1 million, 8.7 million and 6.9 million followers respectively.
