Pinterest is a highly popular social media platform with a massive following of around 72.8 million users. Whether you are a small or large business, conservative or modern, it doesn’t matter. You can still use the platform to reach out to a huge target audience, increase traffic to your website and boost your bottom line.

Read on for 5 steps to using Pinterest for business:

1. Plan, Plan, Plan

First things first, you need to create a beautiful and accessible Pinterest page. Upload your company’s logo and ensure that all of your most important contact information is available in the ‘About’ section, such as your website’s URL, you company address and contact telephone number. Also, include a keyword-rich company description to attract even more users to your pins.

2. Set up your boards

You can be as creative as you want to be with your boards, but bear in mind that people find pins and boards based on keywords, so do your research into popular keywords that are relevant to your line of business and try to integrate them into your board titles.

Don’t overdo it with boards in the beginning – stick to around 5 or 6 boards but focus on building up the images within those boards. With Pinterest, it’s all about balance: don’t keep a board on your page if it only has three images on it, but at the same time, don’t create a board and overwhelm it with hundreds of images. Maintaining balance is one of the keys to a successful Pinterest account.

3. Talking of balance…

Next, mix up your pins and pin strategically. Avoid pinning exclusively from your blog or website as this makes your brand come across as very salesy and narrow-minded. Instead, pin from a range of brands and individuals and be sure to follow others, repin their pins, like their pins and comment on them. Engage with your followers and always thank individuals or brands for repining your pins. This is an excellent strategy that keeps your brand in the minds of your followers and shines a positive light on your brand.

4. Focus on Quality

Much like Instagram, Pinterest is all about quality. Every image that you upload needs to be clear, engaging and of the highest quality. Upload a range of images from photos, text and even video. If you’re feeling creative, why not create an inspiring infographic to really appeal to your core audience and enhance the chances of your content getting repined. Don’t forget though, every time you pin something, be sure to include an interesting pin description, relevant keywords, hashtags and your website’s URL.

5. Optimise, Optimise, Optimise

Finally, your Pinterest account can be fully optimised when you include the ‘Pin It,’ ‘Follow Me’ and ‘Pin it Bookmarklet’ buttons across your website, including your product pages, blog content and website, as well as your email footers and newsletters. Embed these buttons wherever you feature pinnable content to truly expand your following and reach an even bigger audience.
