Pinterest is one of those social media platforms that many businesses choose to ignore. But just because it isn’t as widely talked about or used by big brands, doesn’t mean that it can’t bring benefit to your own brand.

Countless industries have benefited magnificently from using Pinterest, and it’s obvious why. With more than 100 million active users the site can quickly lead to increased awareness of your brand, a rise in site traffic and new leads/sales. For this reason, every marketer should consider setting up a Pinterest for business account:

1. Verify your Business Account

Although this may seem like an obvious step, many brands have failed to take this step when setting up a Pinterest account. Simply go to the settings section and click on the ‘Confirm Website’ button. Once you have completed this step you will be given complete access to Pinterest’s business analytics, promoted posts and rich pins.

2. Pin content from your website

Use Pinterest to promote your latest blog posts. Every time you post a blog onto your site, Pin it onto Pinterest – just like you would with Facebook or Twitter. Make sure that your Pins are linkable as many businesses make the mistake of forgetting to include a link to their site along with a description of the image and the post.

3. Talking of descriptions…

If you’re going to post something on Pinterest, it’s of paramount importance to include a description of that pin. If not, you are missing out on the perfect opportunity to optimise your post and attract more traffic. Create a high-quality, interesting caption that is to the point yet enticing enough to want to click on the link. Also, include keywords within that description.

4. Include a Pin It button

Your website or blog should feature a Pin It button to encourage readers to pin your products onto their Pinterest pages. This is a fantastic way to spread the word about your brand and encourage even more customers back to your website.

5. Quality not quantity

We recently wrote an article about how often you should post on Facebook and Twitter. With Pinterest, the rules are fairly similar and you should concentrate on posting a range of content – not just your own. Also, keep in mind the importance of high-quality, relevant and impactful images. Pinterest is ALL about the visual therefore if you post boring, low-quality images, you can’t expect people to click on those images!

As you can see, Pinterest is a fantastic resource that enables you to interact with potential clients, upload meaningful content that successfully represents your business and brings streams of traffic straight to your website. Not convinced, see here, here and here for more reasons why you should be using Pinterest for business.
