Google is constantly changing its rules to ensure that websites are adopting the most ethical content marketing practices possible. As a result of the changes, it’s important that you acknowledge the latest rules to ensure that your site is completely optimised to gain the highest search engine ranks possible.

5 of the most important changes you need to make in 2015 outlined below:

1.       Search for Duplicate Content

Search your entire website for duplicate content. This could mean duplicate content within different pages of your site, or content that might be considered as duplicated from another website. If you find any, remove it immediately or re-write it so that it is unique and not duplicated.

2.       Perform a Content Audit

How well-written is your content? Does it contain a good balance of appropriate keywords? Is it well-researched, interesting and resourceful? If not, review that content and either revise it or delete it.

3.       Adjust your Content Strategy

If your content marketing strategy is currently: ‘quantity over quality’ then you need to reassess it immediately. Aim for only the highest quality content, even if this means posting content less frequently. As mentioned above, your content needs to be well-researched, well-written, interesting and resourceful. If it isn’t, do not publish it.

4.        Include Images in your Posts

Society has become incredibly visual-oriented, so including images as part of your content marketing strategy is very important. Aside from being more interesting for your readers, they also serve a positive purpose for search engines, demonstrating that your content is very valuable.

You can include plain images or opt for infographics, which are very highly regarded by search engines. Infographics also attract organic backlinks so serve multiple purposes.

5.       Perform Regular Content Audits

We mentioned in point 2 that you should perform a content audit, but once you’ve performed your first audit, you should then proceed to perform regular audits as part of your content marketing strategy. Once a month take one hour to review all of the content that’s been posted on your site since you performed your last content audit, to ensure it’s of a high quality and isn’t duplicated. This ensures that quality of your content remains of a consistently high level.
