It’s easy to rush an email marketing campaign, stuffing it with unnecessary words or including redundant phrases like ‘extra bonus’ in order to get it sent out as quickly as possible. But an email marketing campaign needs to be very carefully planned and executed in order to be effective. By rushing, your email runs the risk of being sent straight to the spam folder or simply being deleted.

Many major brands have committed some serious mistakes within their email campaigns. Listed below are some email marketing mistakes you should definitely be avoiding.

1.       Using the Word ‘Epic’

The word ‘epic’ is losing its meaning because it is being used so much within marketing. Try to find an alternative word to describe a sale, promotion or any other marketing campaign. There are so many adjectives out there to play with, many of which don’t get to enjoy the limelight. Be creative; be different and aim for vocabulary that really makes an impact.

2.       ‘Get a Sneak Peak’

Correct spelling, grammar, and meaning goes a long way in maintaining audience interest and encouraging readers to take action. The above statement is a marketing mistake that should be avoided (‘peak’ is the top of a mountain while ‘peek’ is a small look).

3.        ‘Check out our New Arrivals in Advance’

This type of mistake is known as a tautology. A tautology is repeating the same thing twice using different words and is completely unnecessary and repetitive. The phrase ‘new arrivals’ is similar in nature to ‘advanced preview’, however a preview indicates that something is going to take place in advance, so the word ‘advanced’ is completely unnecessary. Think of unique ways to express your campaign rather than repeating yourself.

4.       ‘Get a Free Gift’

This type of email marketing mistake is similar in nature to ‘new arrivals.’ A gift is free in the first place, so it’s not necessary to include the word ‘free’ before ‘gift’ as the word free is implied within gift.

In Summary

As you can see, there are plenty of email marketing mistakes that you need to avoid in order for your campaigns to be taken seriously.
